The transliterated Greek word canon (kanōn) is a term that means rod, rule, or standard of measure. Applied to the Bible, the “canon of Scripture” refers to the measured number of books in the Bible, why certain books are deemed the standard, recognized books of Scripture, and why other books are rejected.
